The firm that maps
decision authority
for AI.
Mesa Group is a service-product firm in the decision authority mapping category. Two divisions, one discipline, one standard.
01What Mesa Group is
The category is new. The work it specifies is not.
Mesa Group operates as a service-product firm in the category of decision authority mapping. The category is new. The work it specifies is not.
The firm has two divisions. Mesa Point maps decision authority before AI is automated. Mesa Built builds the automation under that mapping discipline. The two divisions are independently engageable. The mapping discipline is shared by both.
The reference class for everything Mesa Group produces is the standard an Inc 5000-grade buyer expects from the best-in-class firm in the relevant category. Pitch documents are held to the standard set by top private equity firms. Research is held to the standard set by Stanford and MIT. Surveys are held to the standard set by the top reporting firms. The standard does not negotiate.
02The thesis
Not a code problem. A specification problem.
The 85% AI failure rate documented in published research is not a code problem. It is a specification problem.
Org charts, KPIs, OKRs, and statements of work are sufficient for human decision-making. They are not sufficient for automated decision-making. Automated decisions require a different layer of specification: who owns the authority for the decision, what level of autonomy the automation has, where its authority starts and ends, and how that authority sits inside the existing decision flow. Most organizations do not have this layer. Mesa Group builds it.
The thesis is operational, not philosophical. Every Mesa Point engagement produces the layer in the form of a command chart. Every Mesa Built engagement produces the automation that operates inside the layer.
03The principles in practice
Not posture. Operational rules.
The three principles are not posture. They are operational rules.
Ownership transfers at engagement close. Mapping and building are bought separately. Governance is the deliverable; tools are what the governance authorizes. Every engagement runs against these rules. They produce the standard the firm holds.
04The work, the methodology, the operator
Field-tested before it is sold.
Mesa Group was founded by Dan Dollins. Dan spent twenty years working alongside CEOs and CFOs of Inc 5000 companies before founding the firm. The catalyst was a private-equity acquisition followed by two thousand hours of self-directed study on how AI changes the way decisions move through an organization. The thesis Mesa Group is built on came out of that work.
Dan owns the methodology and the firm's intellectual position. The execution operates with a team of programmers, proprietary tooling, and a sales partnership with Jay handling qualified buyer conversations. The firm scales beyond Dan by design.
